See the inspiration above and then how it turned out below!

I love Moana and I knew that her regular costume would be very involved and also be everywhere (it was!) so I decided to do her outfit at the end of the movie!

  • Red shirt with shells on it (I bought a shell necklace and cut off the ends and pinned it)
  • White sparkle skirt
  • Feathers (I bought these here and pinned it on elastic and pinned it to the top and bottom of my skirt). I also pinned feathers around my arm.
  • We run social compression socks
  • Red sparkle athletic hat
  • Flowers (I bought them on a headband and just put it around my head on the hat)
  • Necklace (which I bought at Walmart and never saw it anywhere else)

I couldn't have done this costume without my grandmother making the overlay skirt-it was perfect!
  • Red shirt with same pink ribbon from overlay pinned on the collar
  • White sparkle skirt
  • Red and pink overlay
  • Red ProCompression socks
  • Specter
  • Crown and earrings (from a kid set from Walmart)

I am in Hong Kong this week so enjoy some costume posts!

Rey's costume is as easy as I just recommend buying it on Amazon! I go the costume and the googles separately. I also bought a blue light saber from Walmart.

That's all haha. I sized up so it wouldn't be too tight but it worked well to run in as it was polyester
so I knew it would feel fine. No chafing!

TotR: St Patricks Day traditions

Another Tuesday, another Tuesday on the Run hosted by our favorites:
Erika from MCM Mama Runs, Marcia from Marcia's Healthy Slice and Patty from No-Guilt Life. This week's topic is St. Patrick's Day traditions.

I am pretty easy when it comes to St. Patrick's day-wear green (I even packed green beads to where while in Hong Kong!) and I like to eat corned beef. I was able to make corned beef before I left for Hong Kong and froze it to eat when I get back. I like to add carrots, onion, celery and sometimes potatoes as well.

I am not a beer drinker so no green beer or Guinness for me!

As for runs, sadly we don't have a St. Patricks day race in LA as the LA Marathon is usually around that time. I would love to do a fun 5k or 10k but have not found one yet.

How about you? What traditions do you have?

Time for some weekly accountability! I will recapping how I have done on the 4 Well Rules over the last week: Eat Well, Sleep Well, Exercise Well and Be Well New Linkup for Monday! I will linking up with MissSippiPiddlin and HoHo Runs to talk about my week recap! Welcome to the 4 well rules that I try to follow as I go through my week! Let's get to it!

EAT WELL
Eating before Hong Kong was great-I was able to make enough food to freeze for when I come back which will be great! I also celebrated a lot-margaritas, champagne, wine and more!

SLEEP WELL
I am feeling good heading to Hong Kong so we will see how the jet lag goes!

EXERCISE WELL:
LAST WEEK:
Mon- Biggest Loser Weight workout
Tues-3 miles
Weds-Piyo
Thurs- 1.5 miles
Fri- rest day/Disneyland
Sat- travel to Hong Kong
Sun-technically traveling to Hong Kong

THIS WEEK:
Mon-Fri: some sort of workout at the hotel
Sat: Hong Kong Disneyland!
Sun: flying back to LA

In Hong Kong-my goal is to workout 20-30 minutes in my room and hopefully go for 2 runs while I am there.

BE WELL
I AM A DOCTOR! WOO-HOO!! I am still so relived and I am so ready to make final corrections and be done!
I was able to celebrate at Disneyland at their Food and Wine festival (recap is coming) which really was great. Traffic heading down and back was not.
Hopefully Hong Kong is going well (I wrote this before I left) and if I can update with wifi, I will!

How was your week?

2017 Princess Half Marathon Recap

**all photos are at the end in a slideshow  so make sure to take a peek!
As I mentioned in the 10k recap, we went to bed right before 10 and got up at 3:20. We left the room right before 4. For this race, we dressed as Voyager Moana and Chief Moana-so much fun! Walked right into the bus and waited for it to be full before taking off. Traffic was terrible getting to the start and we had just enough time to drop our bag and head out. To make matters worse, there was construction on the walking path to the corrals and it took FOREVER. on top of that, they split the corrals a new way with 75% heading one way and add the long Porto lines, there were times we were at a standstill. I headed towards the front to use those Portos and then had a crazy long jog to get to my corral. I hopped in my Corral ready got at 5:30 and heard there was a 10 min delay because of the issues. I definitely think rundisney needs to figure out a better way because this is the first race that the getting to the corrals was such a mess. We did the same thing for the marathon and it was fine (it was also less people though).

I started in D and was feeling pretty tight so I decided to take the first 5k slow and steady. We headed away from Epcot and the course never got too crowded which was nice. We turned and headed to the MK gates and it was dark but still lots of room to run. We passed the Pirates and Princes but I knew I would hit them on the way back. Went through the magic kingdom gates and hit the second water stop (first water stop is about .5 miles in which I have always loved). There were Portos with no line but I was holding off until MK.

Headed towards the old speedway location and hit the 5k mark. It's amazing to have a regular 5k pace with no photostops. I knew the first stop was coming up! Mrs Incredible was right before we turned towards the TTC. Not far ahead was the Evil Queen from Snow White in human form and Maleficient! Jacque caught up to me here.

We continued through the TTC and passed the Japanese drummers and another water stop before the narrow bridge to MK. Crowding is always a concern here so we spent most of the time running in the grass. The DJ pumped up the crowd as always and before we knew it, we were backstage at MK!

Running down Main St is always my favorite but I'm not liking how ChEAR squad is in the street. They used to be on the sidewalk so you had more room to run. Once again I have no pictures of myself running down Main St. We headed to Tomorrowland and stopped for a picture with Buzz. The Queen of Hearts was in front of the Teacups.

Gaston was at his tavern and the line was long (easily at least 15 minutes) but it was the best character interaction I've ever had. He knew I was so not into him so he decided to just admire his favorite person-himself-in the reflection of my sunglasses. Amazing!

Next we had to stop for my boyfriend Gentleman Beast at his castle! Always such a gentleman. We then continued through the castle and got a castle pic before going to Frontierland. Woody was out in Frontierland and then we finally made it backstage where we had a 20 minute wait for Cinderella and Prince Charming. Mallory was able to catch up to us! We then finished the longest 5k ever and hit a water stop before venturing down Cone Alley. We ran mostly in the grass and made it through okay. Course crowding was now crazy!

We stopped for Penguins at Grand Floridian, the wedding singers outside of the pavilion, and vacation genie at the golf course. We hit the Clif zone and as we turned to head back to Epcot and stopped at a med stop for some Vaseline and Biofreeze. That cone Alley running made my knees sore. We finally got our Princes picture and Pirates picture. From there we focused on trying to keep as steady intervals as possible. As we were passing people, most were fine but some got a bit snippy. When someone says-excuse me, on your left, the response shouldn't be-well go around. Umm that is what we are doing?
The course crowding up the overpass and "hills" heading into Epcot was unbearable. We just tried our best but ended up walking a lot as to not do too much weaving. Backstage at Epcot we saw Mushu (foreshadowing for a theme next year?), hit the last water stop and finally at the 20k point. We decided to stop for a spaceship earth pic on the way back and at the turnaround saw Princess Daisy! We got our spaceship earth jumping picture and headed towards the finish. The gospel choir was in top form as we went by!
Another rundisney finish line and my 5th princess half. It was so much fun!

GARMIN RUNNING SPLITS: 10:58/10:55/10:38/10:49/11:04/10:30/10:58/11:!2/11:!6/11:00/11:37/11:41/11:27/11:05
texted splits:
  • 5k- :34:08 (10:59 pace)
  • 10k- 2:16:08 (32:54 pace)
  • 15k-3:07:38 (16:36 pace)
  • Finish-3:59:04 (18:11 pace)
Afterwards, we celebrated with champagne before heading back to the resort for breakfast at Boma. We had some pool time, a quick nap before heading to MK for pictures, dinner and then Top of the World for the Seven Seas Lagoon drink. MK was so crowded the two times I was there, I actually only rode a few things. This is the first trip in my entire life I didn't hit Pirates, Big Thunder, Splash, and Haunted!

Overall this was a fabulous Princess weekend and I can't wait to head back for the 10th anniversary and 5th challenge (now named Fairy Tale!) next year.

What's the last half marathon you ran?  Have you ever met Gaston?

2017 Princess 10k Recap

**all pictures are at the end of the post in a slideshow so make sure to open in a browser to see them all**
Well this will go down as the least amount of sleep I've gotten before a race ever. After taking a red eye, doing MK, Expo and Epcot, getting settled in and having a margarita as a nightcap, I finally fell asleep a bit before 10 and got up at 330-5.5 hours!

I was able to get up and get dressed and out the door right before 4 (including the 5 min search for my earring haha), walked right on the bus and we waited for it to be full. Also I guess I didn't screw my UCan top on as it leaked in my bag. Oops. While waiting for the bus to fill, I ate my waffles and drank some of my UCan. The bus ride was quick and uneventful, I finished my UCan and I was meeting up with Jacque by 430. We caught up and I headed to the corral around 4:50 and used the Porto by the corrals and hopped in. Around 5:15 they walked us to the start line.

The videos they showed and the crowd interaction was great before the start. We started right on time. My intervals for this race were 1:15/:30 and I felt strong from the beginning. For the issues I have been having, I've been doing short jogs and shin stretches in the corral and it's been working. This race definitely showed that!

About half a mile in, Moana was out on the overpass. In the past it was Elsa but it was so nice to see Moana. She had so much interaction with crowd and was hoping she would be out when I was dressed as her.
I hit the mile at about 10 min (which for a Disney race is pretty fast for me!)and kept going to the turnaround up the overpass and guess who was the first character? ELENA! I freaked as that was my costume. I waited about 5 minutes (and was so sweaty) and she knew who I was!  I played my specter for her and she loved it. Best photo stop of the day!
I kept going towards Epcot and it was more crowded than usual. Well A and B were set off within 5 minutes apart instead of the usual 10 and it was crowded. I got a photo with the pixies and they did the line the opposite way so it was deceiving and I waited about 10 minutes. Not soon after, I hit a water stop.
I was worried after that photo stop there would be nothing like wine and dine 10k but luckily they had a stop before Epcot! I waited about 10 min for the old hag Snow White queen (including her going for an apple break) with cauldron. Love it!!
With the road I was able to spread out and keep my pace. Before I knew it, we hit the 3 mile turnoff and 5k stop there was construction on the road (new from the wine and dine 10k) and I headed backstage to Epcot. I stopped for a picture with e Mardi Gras dancers and continued towards World Showcase. Right after entering between Norway and China, there was our second water stop.  Continued around World Showcase (with fabulous princess music) and stopped for a quick photo with Dopey in Germany (with a crazy bathroom stop where I could not pull up my shorts-so humid!) and then Gepetto and Pinocchio in Italy.

I got a few pictures running around World Showcase and then made it to France. There was a photo stop with the champagne like at Wine and Dine but I figured my outfit did not reflect that I continued on to Marie!!!

After that we headed to the Boardwalk, I saw one of the most insane photo lines ever for Princess Minnie but you could only hit it on your way back so I continued on. I stopped for Vacation Genie at ESPN Zone and then continued on but noticed the course was getting more and more crowded (and the Boardwalk was wet so I had to be careful). Another water stop was at Jellyrolls and then I continued towards YC and BC and back to Epcot. I was trying to go as hard as I could to get to the Princess Minnie line before it closed.

It was even longer but I wanted to stick it out. TWENTY FIVE MINUTE WAIT! lord! and I had my first encounter with the balloon ladies. They came out of World Showcase and somehow everyone missed them. We were told that they were on the Boardwalk and a golf cart pulled up. They let us know if we see balloons rounding the corner to RUN as if we did not hit the gate, we would be swept. it was a bit crazy but I made it through the line, Jacque joined me for a quick pic and off we ran backstage! Didn't see the balloon ladies coming. What surprised me was the number of people that hopped in line still.

We took a quick pic with figment and spaceship earth and headed towards the finish. My longest 10k ever that is even longer than my half marathon PR.
GARMIN RUNNING TIME: 10:04/9:58/10:29/10:20/9:53 (i did run fast to get to Minnie haha)/11:33/11:36
Official Splits:
  • 5k- :50:12 (16:10 pace)
  • 10k-2:15:46 (21:46)
What was weird were the photo lines were long! longer than any other race in a long time. It doesn't bother me but I was a bit worried about the half the next day and getting every photo. We got champagne and I headed back to the hotel to shower and head out. We went to AK, hit up Nomad lounge and then went to the We Run Social meetup at Poly. After that, we went to Disney spring and had dinner at Homecomin which was incredible (review coming soon!). We then headed back to AK for Rivers of Light which was okay. I will wait to write a review until I see it again. There is definitely a lot of potential. We then did Primeval Whirl to let the crowds die down and had our longest bus wait of the trip-15 minutes. BY the time we got back, settled into bed, it was 9 and we were so wound up we didnt fall asleep until 10! eek!

Overall, I had a great time at the 10k but this course leaves a lot to be desired!

What was the last 10k you ran? Do you know who Princess Elena is?

2017 Rock n Roll New Orleans half marathon recap

Race didn't start until 730-what? We got up at 6 AM, and were out of the door by 6:35. Since it was such a late wakeup, we actually got 8 hours of sleep-amazing! Getting to the start line was about a 5 minute walk from hotel but once we got there it was a zoo as the 10k was starting at 7am.
Since it was a race in NOLA, we went with Princess Tiana, Prince Naveen and a mardi gras dancer! i love being festive!

We did bagcheck, used a porto (which was in a parking lot with parked cars which was a mess), and headed to our corral.
Right in front of us was a large cross walk and not sectioned off so the start was a cluster. We were off about 10 minutes after the start.

We decided to focus on being slow and steady and have fun. 1:15/:30 were our intervals and we kept to ourselves.
We did a long out and back down St. Charles ave towards Loyola and Tulane and looped back. This part of the course went through the garden district which reminded me of haunted mansion.
Picture
They had a few bands along the course (my favorite being the jazz one) and some spectators but this part was a little boring to me. It also didn't help that my left leg was hurting.

Right before the turnaround point, someone was passing out king cake. Omg amazing!  And then a bit farther on the way back was king cake donuts AND MIMOSAS! Yesss. We also eventually hit a beer stop where Devin and brian indulged.

Picture
Picture
We turned down a few streets and I tried the Glukos Energy gel but I picked a gross flavor-My bad. We headed past a few more bands including a Kiss tribute band with full face paint. We went though French quarter and past Jackson square, cafe du monde and got to use a real restroom.

Picture
Picture

We continued down towards City park and passed the Degas house (didn't know he had a house in NOLA) and also the neighborhood Solomon Northrop from 12 Years a Slave. Beautiful tree lined street but the road was pretty narrow and people were slowing so it made keeping a steady pace difficult. As we approached City Park, the sun was out and no shade but it was really nice park.

We finished (in 2:45. Told you we took it slow!) and got a ton of stuff and had a long hike to get our bag and wait for the shuttle. Luckily the shuttle came in 5 minutes and we got on a coach bus and not a school bus. It took us back towards the start line and we walked less than 5 minutes towards the hotel. We got ready and headed out for a fun afternoon.

SPLITS: 11:07/11:54/11:35/12:43/13:40(forgot to pause for one of our stops)/12:12/11:48/12:57/11:44/12:06/11:39/11:34/11:08 (2:36 time)

Picture
We had hurricanes and lunch at Pat O Briens, a hand grenade, king cake shot, beignets, jambalaya, French 75, old school daiquiri. The next day I went and got a mint julep, red beans and rice, and a sidecar at the carousel bar. So many good food and drinks.

Overall I had a fantastic time. The course was okay-I wish they had a bit more New Orleans/jazz styles bands. Also I hate the point to point-the logistics are so difficult. I wish they just did an out and back.

I would be willing to do this race again. One good thing is it makes me interested to try other rock n roll races as LA and San Diego left a lot to be desired.

What's the last half you did? Have you ever run in New Orleans before?
