I was up past midnight working on my dissertation (the inspiration and motivation was there so I took advantage!) and slept in to get proper rest for a 20 miler. So instead of getting up at 6am and heading out by 7, I got up about 730 and headed out about 9. I had looked at the forecare and it was not supposed to rain but not until 2. Enough time for me to run.
Well imagine my surprise when it started raining at 1030 but it stopped. At 1115 came the real rain (the rest of the country would call it normal rain. In LA, it was a downpour) and it stung my eyes through sunglasses and was getting heavier. It was hitting my head and causing my dried sweat to become liquid and run into my eyes!
I decided to cut one rose bowl lap incase it got worse so I wouldn't be stranded 5 miles from home by the Rose Bowl golf course with no cover. Not to mention, I don't trust LA drivers in the rain so I was very cautious. The rain continued until I was done around 1:20.
I got in my run in the rain (which I haven't done since splash n dash 2014) so that's positive.
I got in a bit over 17 miles total (1 mile walking warmup, 15 mile run and 1 mile cool down) at a 13:38 including the walking miles. I am a bit disappointed not to get in all the miles but I am glad I got done what I could. It was the run I needed-I feel strong again, I feel determined, and am willing to listen to my body as it adjusts to all going on.
I was cold and felt like a wet dog but it got done! After a very warm bath, a lot of food, a quick nap, I headed to see Nightmare Before Christmas at the Hollywood Bowl!!
I parked at the Ventura Lot which was great as parking was free, I got on the shuttle for free with my Metro card, and it was only a 20 minute drive from my house.
Overall, an eventful Sunday and I am so looking forward to this weekend!
