It's here!
Another Farm Fresh to You box arrived on Friday!

Here is what I received this time:
  • 1 lb blood oranges
  • 2 Valencia oranges
  • 2 hass avocados
  • 1 bunch of carrots
  • 1 bunch of green garlic
  • 1 bunch of red beets
  • 1 carton of strawberries
  • 1 bunch of red kale
  • 2 bunches of green onions

I have been eating the strawberries and oranges and they are fantastic as always.
I have use the green onions and garlic in a stir fry and they were great.
I plan on making another stir fry later this week with carrots, the rest of the green garlic and onions and a bit of the kale and beets.
I also will make some avocado dip with yogurt and spices like last month that was amazing!

I DID IT! I DID IT! I DID IT!! I got up early, went to work early, was all ready with credit card out and ready to go and sign on right at 8:50 and refreshed every minute until it popped up. Well every minute turned out to be 1 because at 8:51 I was starting the process!

They had a lot of pre sale stuff: pins and necklaces and even jackets! Sadly no pictures though. I would rather wait to see so I know for sure what I will be getting. And I somehow completely passed the race retreat! Devin and I decided we will wait on deciding for that since it's 225 this year.

ALL REGISTERED! However my credit card is crying in the corner-that's okay though! That 564.95 was crazy to see. However my credit card is happy as it's new and I think I just passed the 1000 dollars I needed to earn 50000 bonus miles meaning a few flight to WDW in the future!

DOPEY 2015 (5k + 10k+ half+ full) and race retreat for Half and Full!

anyone else sign up?

I only highlight the good deals that are healthy, all-natural. Nothing in a box or can (unless it's exceptional!). New rundisney training plans! Through Tinkerbell 2015

4/15/2014

Hi all! Great news from last night-all of the Galloway training plans have been updated! And I mean ALL-Dumbo, wine and dine, dopey, glass slipper and even tinkerbell. I was able to write out my training miles until may 2015! Woohoo.

They even have 10k training plans which is great!

And even better as you can see from the picture above, it looks like we may have a new theme for the 10k as the training guide has a picture of stitch posted. That would be great if they changed the theme every year. Now if it is true, I guess I will be running the 10k as LILO in her Hawaiian outfit! Need to start planning (look out for a post next week about costume updates).

And it looks like the WDW 10k will stay Minnie themed as she is on the training plan.

However one thing I don't see is an Avengers training plan! Which is sad for Ralph since he wants to hop right in. Since it won't start until July they have time.

Anyone else check out the training plans? What do you think? What do you think of the potential new 10k theme?

So excited now to sign up for Dopey tomorrow!

PS-since it is 4/15 (don't forget to pay your taxes!) please remember the Boston Bombing tragedy of a year ago and keep all those affected in your thoughts and prayers as you go about your day. We will never forget! Boston Strong!!

Updated to add this pic: thanks to Disney Every Day and teamrundisney for the updated pics! SO OBSESSED WITH THE GOOFY MEDAL

Hi all! Just got back from a 6 mile run (my first run in a week and a half!) and have great news. At the Disney social media moms conference, they unveiled the two new medals! Yay!

Now the pictures below are a but blurry but you get the idea.

The wine and dine medal is for the 5th anniversary and it looks like its pink/ purple and spins! So exciting.

And even more exciting is the 10 year anniversary goofy medal (half + full) that is just gorgeous and looks pretty big and spins! Not going to lie, I'm more excited for this goofy medal than dopey now!

I'm predicting this medal will get a lot of people excited for goofy and I think it will sell out very fast. Can't wait to register for dopey on Wednesday!

Now to wait until expedition Everest for people to post pictures of them in person.

I can't wait for both of these medals to be mine!

And thanks to teamrundisney and according to Kelly for posting these on social media for us to see!

Are you running either race? Which medal do you like the best?

2015 Great Race dates announced!

I was explaining the PR and race I had while he was in Japan and how great the after party was to Devin a bit ago and how I wanted to do the race again next year. I sent him the website and it had the updated dates! Woohoo!

The 30th annual Great Race (5k,10k, trail run, half marathon and kid races plus the best after party ever!) will take place on March 28,2015!

I added it to my calendar and just like this year it will be 2 weeks after the marathon so I great way to keep running after the 30th LA marathon! Hopefully I won't have to work that weekend and can participate again.

Not to mention, it is affordable. This year it was 37 bucks (tax included!) and room rentals were 99 dollars with a free shuttle to and from the expo and race and the cutest Italian restaurant across the street.

Is the Great Race on your bucket list? Do you plan on running it next year?

Down for the Count with food poisoning

4/11/2014

So I've been very MIA all week and it's because I've had food poisoning. No fun! I'm still not exactly sure what did me in but I can take a few guesses.

It all started on Monday night when I had leftover chicken and Brussels sprouts for dinner. After I had the brussel sprouts, my stomach started hurting but I thought it was just because they weren't heated up enough. I also had some lettuce with the chicken so that might have made my stomach funny.

On Tuesday was when I decided to do the mini elimination diet: no dairy or eggs but add oatmeal for breakfast. I packed peanut butter to eat with my oatmeal at work.

I got to work and had oatmeal, peanut butter, a bit of yogurt (which was one day away from expiration) and a double coffee espresso drink which has been in my fridge for a while.

As soon as I started eating, I got horrible stomach cramps and thought it was just an upset stomach. I had to teach a workshop so I went and the cramps were getting worse. Eventually I got very sick right after teaching and decided to head back to the office and go home

The commute home was pretty bad because I still felt sick. When I got home I talked to my mom a bit and she said to make sure to rest and drink fluids. I slept most of the afternoon and evening (sleep 1.5 hours, up for an 2 hours and repeated it until I went to bed at 12) and could only keep down water and 1 banana.

I slept decent on weds and stayed home because I was too weak to walk anywhere from not eating for almost 24 hours. I got a bit more food down but rested most of the day.

Thursday I felt better but didn't want to risk it at work. I ate 2 full meals that day and after each one had stomach cramps for a few hours. I thought I was in the clear until I woke up in the middle of the night thinking I was going to get sick and being miserable most of the night.

So here I am Friday morning debating going to work. I'm super nauseous again and it looks like my body is not ready for real food yet. I'm worried if I go to work, I will really regret it or get sick on the train or bus over there. However I feel bad since I've been out of the office since Tuesday. I don't have much going on but do have a project I can work on at home (how to use excel on a Mac! Woohoo 10 hours of training!).

So I think I'm going to stay home one more day. I really don't want to risk it. But this food poisoning is crazy! I've never had it and don't plan on having it again.

Now on to what caused it: was it the lettuce or brussel sprouts from Monday? Or was it the coffee drink or the peanut butter or yogurt from Tuesday? Or was it a combo?

I may never know but idk if I will be ever be able to eat peanut butter again :(

And to make it all worse, I can't run :( I can do a lot of yoga and stretching but no running and very little weights. I've lost weight from not really eating more than working out and I really hope I can get some workouts in this weekend.

Have you ever had food poisoning? Is there something you don't eat anymore because of it?

Staying Healthy on a mini-vacation

4/9/2014

Gorgeous mountains

Last weekend was a mini-vacation for us, which was much needed. My boyfriend's sister and niece are visiting from London so we went with some family and friends camping since his niece had never been! And truth be told-I hadn't either!

We had an amazing time in our tiny cabin and it was very relaxing. Not to mention we were off the grid as the cell phone service was spotty at best. I haven't been off the grid that long in awhile and it was so nice.

Overall, I was tired and sore (that was from sleeping on the floor more than anything else) but from what I ate I felt pretty good! I was the only one that didn't need a nap and made it out of the weekend without a stomachache so I must have done something right. So how did I have a fun weekend and indulge without feeling awful?

Here are my tips for having fun while saying staying pretty healthy (and primal!) on vacation:

1. Pack with activity in mind

We were in the beautiful mountains and forest so I packed a bathing suit for swimming, hiking clothes (which we ended up not having time for), relaxing clothes and nice sneakers.

I ended up hanging out with the girls(we had a 5 year old and 7 year old with us) on a search for a playground after breakfast. We were gone about two hours-walked about a mile each way plus a 40 min playground session so I definitely got a workout in. Pe had a great time singing frozen songs and discussing who we liked better Elsa or Anna (yes, I'm super cool among the elementary school-aged set).

Afterwards we also walked about 10 min to go to the pool, which I used to relax in the hot tub and lay out in the sun for a bit. After that, we showered and had a great BBQ. And it didn't stop there, we also dyed Easter eggs, had an Easter egg hunt and made s'mores.

Being active kept me feeling good (over 10,000 steps on my fitbit) and also kept my appetite healthy.

Not to mention, we took Ralph's niece to Disneyland on Sunday and walked over 10 miles (that's a lot for a 5 year old!)

2. Pack healthy snacks

We were all asked to bring snack food and I knew there would be many opportunities to eat unhealthy over the weekend so I tried to make it as healthy as possible.

Here was what I brought:

  • Strawberries
  • Bananas
  • Apples
  • Carrots
  • Lettuce
  • Watermelon
  • String cheese
  • Chips (all natural)
  • Popcorn (the healthiest I could find in a bag)

I have learned people will pretty much eat anything if they are hungry so I cut up the watermelon and left it in 2 bowls on the table and they were gone by dinner!

I personally ate most of the food while others ate regular chips but it all tasted great. While waiting for breakfast I had a banana, string cheese and strawberries I shared with the 2 young girls.

The healthy snacks definitely helped keep me full without being too unhealthy.

3. Make smart choices at meals

I know gluten makes my stomach hurt so I knew I had to avoid it. This would be my first real test while traveling with others.

For breakfast we had a huge spread of bacon, sausage (turkey and regular), eggs, pancakes, and fruit. I opted for bacon (which I have an addiction to at the moment), one regular sausage and 2 scrambled eggs along with fruit. It filled me up with lots of protein and kept me full until later in the day.

I had snacks later of popcorn, some chips , strawberries and water.

Lunch/dinner was a BBQ: chicken, ribs, burgers and sausage. I knew if I went without a bun, I would feel better.

I had 2 burgers wrapped in 2 large leaves of lettuce with a bit of mustard and ketchup. I also had a sausage with a side of lettuce and a few more chips with water. I felt full but not stuffed and I was the only one not sluggish after eating and it felt great. I had the energy to set up and help the girls dye Easter eggs and also hid them.

3. Indulge a little!

The one thing I did have that upset my stomach was s'mores but they were worth it. I haven't had s'mores in 10 years and did not want to pass up a chance to experience it with the young girls as it was both their first times. We had so much fun making and eating them. Next time, I would probably bring gluten free crackers to use and just have one instead of 2.

I also indulged in wine and champagne. I had probably 3 mimosas with breakfast and then wine at night while we were just relaxing. As always with alcohol, make sure to drink at least 2-5 glasses of water to help rehydrate your system afterwards or 1 glass of water for every alcoholic drink while drinking. Everytime I do this (like Saturday when I had 5 glasses of water. I must have been more dehydrated than I thought!)before I go to bed, I don't have a hangover which is clutch.

I also had Easter candy while we hid the Easter eggs. I haven't bought any candy (and don't plan on it) but I had a small sampling of most of it. I got my Easter candy fix (even though I haven't had jelly beans yet! Eek!) so I don't feel the need to have more and also I enjoyed it. That's what indulgences are for!

4. Disconnect to connect

It was so nice to be without phones. Everyone was engaged and had such a great time. I don't feel I'm addicted to my phone but I know others definitely are! It was nice to just listen to music and talk and catch up. Nice bonding time :)

Also it is always great to live in the moment and try new things.

5. Drink carefully

I had wine, 2 mixed drinks made with vodka and club soda (one was made with leftover watermelon and was delicious!) and also my mimosas with orange juice and water. No soda or other juice. I was chugging water (it was pretty warm this weekend) and I feel like I could have definitely had more water.

Even at Disneyland I managed to make decent choices: well as good as you can when you eat at goofys kitchen, hav ice cream for a snack, however I redeemed myself with a great salad for dinner at pizza port. I was also inhaling water and still ended up dehydrated. However at work yesterday I had about 100 oz of tea (no joke. I refilled my 18oz tea mug 6 times!) and woke up feeling much better today.

Overall, I feel I had a great time and managed it as well as I could. I came away from the weekend very full but also full of great memories. Now back on the real clean eating train!

How do you stay healthy on vacation? What are your tips?
