Hi all! Linkup Friday!! Thanks to our amazing hostesses: Courtney from Eat Pray Run DC, Mar from Mar on the Run, and Cynthia from You Signed Up For What?!. This week's topic is Race Day! I've definitely been practicing my race day prep over the past 4 weeks with my 4 races.
I eat the same thing before every race whether it's a 5k or a marathon. The longer the race, the more I have. I eat the pretty low carb usually so any pre-race carbs help me immensely while running in addition to the carb loading that is occurs anywhere from 1-4 days before the race depending on the distance.
Here are 5 things I have in the morning to prep for a race:
1. Hot tea
I drink tea most mornings anyway but I love a good English breakfast before a race. The caffeine wakes me up and it was very nice to have. Also it helped with the PRP (the pre-race poop if you aren't familiar)
2. Hot cereal
I found this new cereal on clearance at Sprouts for a dollar. Yes it's for toddlers but it is so good!
3. Banana
The tried and few fruit that I get so sick of dealing with during race prep. But it is easy to carry and eat while heading to the race in the car or walking over.
4. Vega one energy
Once I am heading to the race, I switch to Vega energy. I actually like the taste and it's a great way to stay hydrated and get a bit of a prep before racing. It says to drink 20 min before activity but I can't always plan it correctly so I do my best.
5. Smoothie
Yes more baby food but it taste delicious, is all natural, easy to carry and easy on the stomach. I have this in the corral about 5 min before I start as an extra boost of sugar.
