Halloween has come and gone to officially kick off the Holiday season. Lots of food temptations and parties so it is crucial to stay on track so you don't derail your training. I will be in the middle of Dopey training (which will turn into Rebel Challenge, Princess, LA marathon and then Pixie Challenge training) so it is crucial I stay healthy during these next few months!
1. Plan your workouts and stick to it
It is important you get the calendar out and write out long runs and tough workouts so they don't fall by the wayside. Having them all in one place is very helpful and ensures you don't miss any important workouts. For me, my big Dopey weeks are thanksgiving week and the week before Christmas. All of my social events are planned around those big training weeks.
2. Plan out meals
Nothing obsessive but with the need to carbload and refuel, it is important that with social events to know where you will eat! I don't believe in the concept of good vs bad food, but I do know how some the more indulgent foods make me feel the next day so I try to make sure I can indulge without having a massive stomach and bloating attack the next day.
3. Plan your runs around social events
Along with planning food, comes planning out training with your parties. Make sure-if you can-to not have a long run after a late night party. It may require some flexibility on your part, but your body will thank you!
4. Run a turkey trot
Always fun to run and be festive! I'm currently planning on running a 5k and 10k on thanksgiving morning in DTLA (come run with me!). It will be the middle of my Dopey training and that way I am still active and also won't feel like a bum.
5. Allow yourself to rest
Between family, friends, work, parties, work outs and holiday shopping, make sure you are getting the rest you need. Nothing will derail training like a cold based from stress and lack of sleep! It is important to follow the 4 Well Rules: eat well, sleep well, exercise well and be well to make sure you make it through the holidays healthy and happy.
