Hi all! Linkup Friday!! Thanks to our amazing hostesses: the DC Trifecta Bloggers (Courtney from Eat Pray Run DC, Mar from Mar on the Run, and Cynthia from You Signed Up For What?!).
As I wrote about at the beginning of the month, cold in Cali is much different than the rest of the country. Cold for me is in the 40s and I wear long sleeves and capris so I may not have the experience of some true winter warriors but here are some tips that I follow!
1. Wear dri fit/wicking clothing
It's so important to not wear cotton so you don't overheat. This will keep your sweat from weighing down your clothes.
2. Check the weather
It's important to know what you are going out into! It may get colder or warmer as you run and you need to be prepared for that! Many times the sun or clouds can be deceiving in look compared to temperatures.
3. Be willing to shed layers
As you start, your body will heat up. Often times when I have run with gloves, I take them off within 1-2 miles. Be willing to take off layers-hats, gloves, jackets if you feel you are too warm.
4. Hydrate
During the summer, it is easy to remember to drink water. When it is cooler outside, signs of dehydration can be harder to spot. Make sure you are hydrating regularly.
5. Electronics
If you have gloves and use an iPod, phone, Etc for tracking or music, you will have a hard time using it! Make sure you have the gloves that have tips that are sensitive for electronics. I bought some on Groupon 2 years ago for under 10 bucks and they work great.
That's it for me. What are some of your cold weather tips?
