This weekend I am running new race to me: the Santa Anita Derby Day 5k. It is local to me and seems like a good time.
The race starts and end at the Santa Anita Race Track and will also run through the Arborteum next door. It finishes ON the track and then there is a finish line festival. Also, from running the race, we get a free parking and free entry to the derby that afternoon.
The Santa Anita derby is one of the last races before the Kentucky Derby and some of the last points available to make it to the Derby. And guess who won last year-yup, California chrome the Kentucky derby winner! So I am hoping we will see a future Kentucky derby winner this weekend!and yes I will be in dress, heels and hat!
So for this race, my goal is run this race without intervals! My goal is to stop and walk the one water stop in the middle and also allow for a few pics as I see fit. I know this won't be a PR me and I'm okay with that, I'm saving my PR for next weekend!
This race has self-seating corrals and will take off 1-2 min behind each other. Let's hope people use them correctly!
A goal- sub 33:00
This would be under a 11:00 min mile and seems reasonable for running without stopping as I won't be able to start out fast.
B-sub 36:00
Under a 12:00 min mile
C-finish smiling
The course could be crowded(there is projected to have 6500+ runners) and I may just want to take it easy.
My goal is to line up between the 10-11 min mile group and see how I do.
I'm excited not only for the race but for the Derby After as well!
Anyone else have race plans this weekend?
